Cheryl Samuels

“Cheryl has been amazing as a support during pregnancy. She is approachable, engaging and whatever I am worried about I always feel at ease with Cheryl.“ - Natalie

Hello my name is Cheryl Samuels and I provide private midwifery care in Essex and the surrounding areas.

My journey into private practice began in early 2024, with the aim to provide empowering unhurried home-based midwifery care. Continuity of carer is the gold standard of midwifery care, which research has repeatedly shown to provide excellent clinical outcomes for both women and their babies.

My areas of expertise are in -

  • Providing bespoke and holistic antenatal care, empowering you in your choices and creating personalised care plans

  • Homebirth specialist midwife including vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC/HBAC)

  • Facilitating birth physiology including waterbirth, hypnobirthing and biomechanics for birth

  • Perineal care and repair

  • Postnatal health and wellbeing

  • Newborn care and breastfeeding support

  • Massage therapy and aromatherapy for pregnancy and childbirth

I began my career in healthcare in 2003, working in paediatric care at Great Ormand Street Hospital. In 2012 I commenced my midwifery training and I have worked in all areas of NHS maternity services across Essex since I graduated in 2016. This included working in community midwifery teams providing antenatal, homebirth and postnatal care, alongside providing labour care on birth centre and labour ward settings. I have also been a university midwifery lecturer teaching undergraduate and postgraduate student midwives at the University of Suffolk and a senior NHS midwife supporting student midwives in practice as a clinical placement facilitator.

Outside of work my family includes my husband, four teenage children (including twins) and our two dogs called Coco and Pepper. My last baby was born at home and I received continuity of carer myself, which was a wonderful experience for the whole family.

I would welcome the opportunity to care for you whilst you grow your family and provide gentle, evidence-based, individualised midwifery care to support your needs.

“Cheryl didn’t disappoint, she is a kind, empathetic upbeat person who immediately put you at ease when discussing somewhat scary ideas. I always felt comfortable to ask any question on my mind and I knew I would get an honest answer.” - Emma
